What is the best K-Dramas in 2020 ?

THIS POST MIGHT CONTENT SOME SPOILER FROM THE DRAMAS!

THIS IS TRULY MY OWN REVIEW AND DOES NOT INFLUENCE BY OTHERS!

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone!

This is my first post for 2021 and the first time to greet you after awhile. Last year, it was quite a tough year for us due to the pandemic that happened that we do not expect. However, I hope that this year will give us a new hope to live in a brand-new way. Many things already changed, our surroundings, environment, and other things. Even the education system around the world got hit by a new wave of using the technology. I am also one of the students affected by the pandemic, T.T

Enough of that hahaha, so let us move on towards our main topic for today. Its been a few years since I started this post. I think watching all of this drama still gives me exciting feelings and how all the dramas are currently revolving towards our own environment makes me can relate more. As I got older, my favorite genre also changes. Before this, I love crime, thriller, law, and medical dramas. I still love it, but now I also loved slice of life, melo and romance drama.

Ahhh, how time flies…

2020 have so many great dramas that heals me an keeps me from being lonely. Due to the pandemic, I spent most of my time at home and even studying online. So, I got so many times to watch any dramas that I want. This year, there are so many great dramas from all great casts that I loved since the beginning. So, I list all of dramas that I managed to watch and will try to give you guys some review based on what I love and watched.

Do not take it too serious as everyone have their own opinions!

Let’s begin!

1.       Hospital Playlist (Cast: Jo Jungsuk, Yoo Yeonseok, Jung Kyungho, Kim Daemyung, Jeon Mido)

This drama is a huge hit for both domestic and international ratings. Due to their fame, this drama will continue with a new season as they planned. According to the production, they wont continue with a new season if the first season are received well by their fans. Fortunately, Shin PD as always does not disappoint his fans. With a star-studded cast, he managed to create HP sensation in 2020. Hospital Playlist 2 is one of the dramas that is huge anticipate in 2021!

This drama tells us about 5 doctors who are bestfriends since their medical school and its been 20 years of their friendship. Even though all of them have different personality, they clicked well and care of each other like a family. This drama is a little bit different from the cliché medical drama. They focused more on the life of their doctors itself and what makes it more interesting is each of them has different departments, so the medical cases shown are variety. The highlight of this drama is the band form by the cast whereas they showcase their own talent and efforts. All the OSTs in the dramas are the best, and even Jo Jungsuk grabs 3 awards for best OST! There are also many love lines to be anticipate especially for the upcoming season 2. This drama only consists of 12 episodes which only one eps per week. It’s a very enjoyable and recommended drama. Even I find its hard to move on from it!

2. Romantic Dr. Kim 2  (Cast: Lee Sungkyung, Ahn Hyoseop, Kim Minjae, So Juyeon)

From the past hit season, this season 2 also becomes a hit with a brand-new plot and cast. Do not worry if you don’t watch the previous season, this season is not a continuous season ad have their own structure of plot. The highlight of this drama is their own plot that is stronger from the previous season. The cases shown in the dramas are also unique I still cannot forget one of the cases where the paramedic who is sudden dead after got hit by the drunken man. It was a really sad scene where the patient agrees to donates her organ after being announced brain death.

There is also love lines between the main casts and even though it starts quite late, it still one of the best. This is the first drama I watch for So Juyeon and she is really cute and have a bright personality and I really love her! I hope they can make a continuous season from this season 2! Its really a good drama to enjoy!

3.  Into The Ring ( Nana, Park Sunghoon)

I never expected to watch this drama. But I saw many reviews said that Nana did really great in this drama and her chemistry with the male lead is another level. So, I decided to watch it. This totally not disappoints me at all. The great thing is, I watch this as soon as it ends, so I can marathon it. This drama script won for a contest held by KBS and the plot and script are actually really good!

This drama tells us about the politic genre, on how youth are struggled to make ends meet and decided to apply to be the District Assembly. Her ridiculous decisions shock her family and friends, but at the end they decided to support her and even campaigning with her. Her character is really stand out, she always takes not and complaint about all those civil complaints including the bus schedule that did not appear. Her passion makes her become the District Assembly, however, its tough for her even when she gets in.

This drama shown us a different side of politics and I really enjoyed it. The male lead is also very good and has strong chemistry with her. I really finished it in a very short time and there is no gap for boring! Totally recommended!

4.       Start Up ( Nam Joohyuk, Suzy, Kim Seonho, Kang Hanna)

This is one of the dramas that receive huge sensation due to the second lead syndrome. Kim Seonho has successfully brought many people to tears and frustration when he didn’t get the heroine. But, above all that, I really learnt a lot from the plot of this that portrays about the business and IT world. Nam Joohyuk and Suzy plays as aspiring to be leader, where they struggle to prove the worth of themselves. While Kim Seonho plays as a successful investor who have the power to invest to any company he wants. I really love how they use the terms that easy to understand even for people who does not know nothing about business. But due to the second lead syndrome, the plot has been overshadowed.

The OSTs are also one of the playlists that I really love to recommend for people. It makes you feel longing for someone who actually not there LOL Overall, I really enjoyed this drama and learnt a lot from it. Its always my dream to become an aspiring leader and CEO in the future like Seo Dalmi plays by Suzy.

5.       Its Okay to Not be Okay  (Kim Soohyun, Seo Yeji, Oh Jungse, Park Gyuyoung)

This drama is a comeback from Kim Soohyun after his military. I would dare to say that he made a successful comeback whereas he drama got internationally popular due to their plot. This drama centered about the perspective of mental health and autism, and eventho many people are being skeptical to it, I think it has a very good and strong plot. Seo Yeji as the main lead did really well portrays someone who has Antisocial personality disorder.

The drama tells us about two brothers, whereas Kim Soohyun act as the younger brother who works as nurse at psychiatric hospital and has older brother who suffers with autism. Due to their past, they consecutively keep moving from one place to another, that makes people hard to approach him. That is when, he meets Seo Yeji who is a famous children book writer who is her brother favourite. Seo Yeji makes him change the perspective of life and slowly enjoying his life. Seo Yeji who portrays as Go Moonyoung has successfully accepting herself and begin to adapt with her surroundings.

I really enjoyed this drama. Many great quotes and have a good script. At the same time, it also gives people some healing that they did not anticipate it! I really recommended it!

6.       Search  (Jang Dongyoon, Krystal, Yoon Park)

Search is one-of-a-kind dramas produce by OCN. I think this is a very interesting and unique drama with only 10 eps. The genre is military and a little bit of mystery. I really love it as they are not many dramas who focus on the military and their department itself, and OCN did not disappoints me!

Jang Dongyoon plays as the sergeant of the military Search department and at the end of his military service, he is being send to his last mission before his military discharge. There he meets his ex-girlfriend who is the First Liutenant in the Search Department. During their last mission, they have the mission to catch a wild dog that have being mutated into a different species that are unknown. This mutation has kills people and brings danger towards the nearest village. Krystal plays as the female lead, and I really approve her acting skills as she never played the same character and always plays a variety that shows her versatile styles. Overall, I really hope OCN can produce another drama like this in the future!

7.       Record of youth (Park Bogum, Park Sodam, Byun Wooseok)

Record of Youth portrays the life of a model portrays by Park Bogum as Sa Hyejun who wants to be actor but keeps being exploit by others. In the meanwhile, he leads a hard life where his family does not support his dream and looking down on his efforts. While doing all sorts of part time work and modeling, he met Ahn Jeongha plays by Park Sodam who came back after winning Oscar for Parasite. Ahn Jeongha lead the character as a makeup artist who is a fan of Sa Hyejun and finally falling in love with each other.

I really love how they portray the struggle of youth and many people can relate to it. They touched on the how youth struggle with employment, the power struggle between the rich and the poor and how its hard to build a relationship when you are into entertainment industry. I think this is the last drama of Park Bogum before he enlists into military.

8.       Mystic pop-up bar (Hwang Jungeum, Choi Wonyoung, Yook Sungjae)

Mystic Popup bar is one of the drama that based on the webtoon of Twin Tops Bar who tells a story about woman who set up an outdoor bar stall, Weol Ju who played by Hwang Jungeum with her assistant, Chief Gwi played by Choi Won Young. They have a mission to settle the grudges of 100000 souls by solving  other people problems and by opening the bar stall, they can hear the problems of their customer and help them. Both of them are actually souls that were dead in the past due to their sad history.

Suddenly, they got a part timer who have unique ability where whenever he touches people, they will out of conscious and tells him their secret. The part timer was played by Yook Sungjae of Btob and it is his last drama before his military service. I really love the plot of this drama that is different from the mainstreams and in the same time very interesting! It’s a very light drama to watch family!

9.       Tale of nine-tailed  (Lee Dongwook, Jo Boah, Kibum)

I don’t know why, but I always enjoyed a fantasy drama where it involves the traditional history of Korea like Hwayugi, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. This drama has the same vibes as the dramas I mentioned before. It involves Lee Dongwook as the main character who played as Gumiho and trying to find his eternal love who is a human. He came across centuries and finally found the reincarnation of his true love, Ah Eum who played by Jo Boah.

However, the love story does not end there. Even though Ah Eum already recognized her true love, she slowly changing towards unrecognized creature due to her past centuries ago. It is because of her own fate where she is the princess of the country in her past.

This drama is quite interesting because of the plot and the traditional creature used where it actually exists in the old myths of Korea. But some people might find it boring as it has slowed and weak plot. But anyway, its Lee Dongwook you need to enjoy!

10.   Hi-Bye Mama  (Kim Taehee, Lee Kyuhyung, Go Bogyeol)

Hi-Bye Mama was one of the sad dramas that I cried so many times. It is also a drama of Kim Taehee comeback and she is partner up with Lee Kyuhyung who played Haerong in Prison Playbook. It tells a story of a sweet couple who suddenly meet a sad tragedy where Kim Taehee suddenly die while she heavily pregnant with their first child. Her husband who is a doctor lives in misery as he felt responsible because he cannot save her wife.

Kim Taehee souls still wandering around after her death because she wants to see her daughter before she gone. But she also needs to face the differences of the reality and her world. Suddenly, she was given the opportunity to become a human for certain period to settle her wishes before she gone forever.

To watch this drama, you need a box of tissue to stand by. It’s a sad family drama where you can see the misery of losing your family members out of sudden and how pure mothers love is. It’s a really good and heart-wrenching drama that I really love to recommend!

11.   Was It Love

(Song Jihyo, Son Hojun, Song Jongho, Kim Minjoon, Koo Jasung)

Was It Love is a drama from Song Jihyo who is a main lead that is surrounds by 4 mans who have complicated relationship with her. She is a single mother who raised her daughter alone for 14 years and suddenly, she came across her ex-boyfriend who is a famous writer for her production drama, who played by Son Hojun. In the same time, she also meets her junior who likes her in university days and currently teaching her daughter. She also has complicated relationship with a gangster who sponsored her drama and a famous actor who is her senior in university and the best friend of her ex-boyfriend.

After 14 years, her daughter suddenly wants to find her father and it makes her daughter investigates each one of the men who surrounds her. This is one of a good love story of Song Jihyo and it is refreshing to see her played as a mother who have a teenager daughter. Surprisingly, it suits her really well, and its really fun to see her chemistry with other actors.

12.   The Good Detective

13.   Tell me what you say

14.   Train

15.   The King: Eternal Monarch

16.   Crash Landing On You

17.   365: Repeat The Year

These are some of the dramas that I watched in 2020 and I really enjoyed so much. Its not that much compare to people who watch every dramas that came out and many dramas are huge hit in 2020 that I cannot catch up. These are totally my own opinion and reviews on the dramas that I watched only.
